1. Scenario: You Are the owner/CEO!
Many of you have expressed interest in starting your own businessnow is your chance. For this project, you will imagine and run a fictional business through its first three months of operations.
2. Overview of the Assignment
This project has two parts:
- Part A The Project: Record business transactions and prepare key financial statements.
- Part B The Presentation: Create a short video explaining your companys financial story from the CEOs perspective.
Part A: Project Deliverables (30 points)
Directions
Choose an industry (e.g., bakery, landscaping, repair shop, online store, etc.). You are the owner/CEO, and your business has just completed its first quarter (3 months).
Requirements (completed in Excel)
- Business Summary
Provide a brief description of your business, including:- Type of business
- How it operates
- Target customers
(Keep it realistic and concise.)
- Chart of Accounts
Create a chart of accounts appropriate for your business. - Journal Entries (2025 transactions)
Record all transactions for the quarter, including:- Initial owners investment
- Purchases of equipment or other assets
- Operating expenses
- Revenue-generating activities
- Cash or credit sales (revenue transactions)
- Financial Statements
Prepare the following for the quarter:- Income Statement
- Statement of Owners Equity
- Balance Sheet

Part B: Recorded Presentation (20 points) I need you to make me a document that i can read off of so i can present in my video. you do not need to make the video i will.
Directions
Create a 35 minute video presenting your companys financial performance to a potential investor. Speak as the CEO of the business.
Requirements
Your presentation must include:
- The Business Pitch
Briefly introduce your company and its mission. - The Financial Story
Explain:- Profitability (based on your Income Statement)
- Financial position (based on your Balance Sheet)
Focus on what the numbers mean, not just reading them. Use your knowledge of accounts and financial analysis.
- The Ask
Based on your results:- How much funding would you request from the investor?
- What would you offer in return (equity, partnership terms, etc.)?
- Justify your request using your financial data.
