Select a current example of a population that is oppressed by life experiences or factors in the environment. Here are some populations from which to choose:

  • Teen girls captured for human trafficking in the sex trade
  • Teen boys trapped by poverty in violent gangs
  • Children caught in abusive homes
  • Homeless schizophrenics
  • Elderly Alzheimers patients whose family financially exploits them
  • Wounded warriors suffering from PTSD

Then, answer the following questions in a Microsoft Word document. Each response should be 35 complete sentences in length. Refer to the learning material presented in this module for guidance.

  1. Is this an ethical dilemma or a moral dilemma?
  2. What ethical principles are in contention? How?
  3. Are there any virtues at risk? Whose? Why?
  4. What justifies overriding an individuals autonomy to make his own choices?
  5. How does the Code of Ethics for Nurses guide the nurse in invoking conscientious objection?
  6. What lessons can be learned from this nurses dilemma?
