In this activity, you will review a completed psych report for Charlie Brown (first grade student) that is an initial eligibility evaluation where the psychologist used the PSW model for SLD identification. You will review the assessment data and address the four aspects below.
Link:
- Identify three areas/aspects (formatting, interview section, observation section, etc.) of strengths you discovered in the report and provide the rationale for why they are strengths.
- Identify three areas/aspects of the report where you recommend improvement (e.g., observation, report cards, interviews, more assessment-if so what areas?, etc.) and the rationale for the recommendations.
- For the next items, you may want to run the data in the XBASS software.
- Do you agree that all measured cognitive areas are strengths? (Do you think there are any cognitive broad band areas where the identified area may be a weakness (e.g., if the scores are not cohesive and additional assessment may be required?) Justify your response.
- Do you agree with the academic strengths/weaknesses?
- Provide your opinion about the SLD eligibility decision in the report and indicate if you agree or disagree with the decision made in the report regarding SLD eligibility and explain why you agree or disagree with the decision.
- Provide next steps you would take to address the needs of this student rubric:
Criteria At Standard Below Standard Criterion Score Identify Strengths At least three areas/aspect are identified as strengths in the report and are highly supported by rationale. At least three areas are identified as strengths in the report (can include report sections or specific aspects of the content within the report) and are supported with rationale. This section is missing or provides less than three areas of strength or they may be inconsistent with what is in the report and/or rationale minimally support the area/content as an area for improvement. / 20 Identify Areas for Improvement At least three areas for improvement that are consistent with being areas for improvement in the report are provided (can include report sections or specific aspects of the content within the report) with superior rationale that support the area/content as an area for improvement. At least three areas for improvement that are consistent with being areas of improvement in the report are provided (can include report sections or specific aspects of the content within the report) with developed rationale that support the area/content as an area for improvement. This section is missing or provides less than three areas for improvement or they may be inconsistent as being areas for improvements in the report (can include report sections or specific aspects of the content within the report) and/or little or inadequate rationale that support the area/content as an area for improvement. / 20 Agree with COG Strengths Superior analysis is provided for each of the seven cognitive areas that agrees or disagrees with the area being identified as a strength offering superior rationale. Superior rationale is provided for cognitive areas where the identified area of strength in the report is questionable. Moderate analysis/rationale for each of the seven cognitive areas is provided that agrees or disagrees with the area being identified as a strength. Section is missing or provides minimal analysis/rationale for each of the seven cognitive (or less) areas that agrees or disagrees with the areas being identified as a strength. / 20 Agree with Academic Strengths Superior analysis/rationale for each of the eight academic areas (Basic Reading, Reading Comprehension, Reading Fluency, Written Expression, Math Calculation, Math Problem Solving, Listening Comprehension, Oral Expression) is provided that agrees or disagrees with the areas being identified as a strength. Moderate analysis/rationale for each of the eight academic areas (Basic Reading, Reading Comprehension, Reading Fluency, Written Expression, Math Calculation, Math Problem Solving, Listening Comprehension, Oral Expression) is provided that agrees or disagrees with the areas being identified as a strength. Section is missing or provides minimal analysis/rationale for each of the eight (or less) academic areas (Basic Reading, Reading Comprehension, Reading Fluency, Written Expression, Math Calculation, Math Problem Solving, Listening Comprehension, Oral Expression) that agrees or disagrees with the areas being identified as a strength. / 20 Agree or Disagree with SLD Determination SLD identification agreement or disagreement with the report is provided with superior rationale for why there is agreement or disagreement. SLD identification agreement or disagreement with the report is provided with moderate rationale for why there is agreement or disagreement. This section is missing or SLD identification agreement or disagreement with the report is provided with minimal rationale for why there is agreement or disagreement. / 20 Next Steps Next steps are clearly identified and align with the current assessment report to support the student (may include recommendations for additional testing clarifying the areas for additional assessment), and/or recommendations for academic support. Next steps are mostly identified and align with the current assessment report to support the student, (may include recommendations for additional testing clarifying the areas for additional assessment), and/or recommendations for academic support. Section is missing or next steps are minimally identified/justified and/or minimally align with the current assessment report. / 20 Grammar Exemplary writing is demonstrated with well-developed paragraphs and clear sense of flow. There are little to no grammar/spelling errors. The length of the paper is 8-10 pages (not including cover page and reference pages). Several grammar/writing/spelling errors exist, but they do not detract from the re-ability of the paper. Paper is between 6-7 pages. There are major errors in grammar/spelling that impact the ability to read and make sense of the paper. Paper is 5 or fewer pages. / 10 TotalScore of Analyze a Psych Report,/ 130
