Case Study Scenario: Preparing Nurse Leaders for a Major Organizational Merger
ValleyCare Health System, a 350bed community hospital, has recently announced its plan to merge with SummitPoint Medical Group, a large multispecialty network with clinics across the state. The merger is expected to expand services, streamline operations, and strengthen financial stability. However, the transition will significantly impact nursing operations, staffing structures, workflows, and organizational culture.
As the merger progresses, nurse leaders across both organizations are expressing uncertainty and concern. Staff are worried about job security, changes in leadership, new policies, and the integration of electronic health records. Preceptors and charge nurses are reporting increased stress among frontline staff, and turnover has begun to rise in several highacuity units.
To support a smooth transition, the Chief Nursing Officer has assembled a leadership development team and requested a concise, evidencebased presentation for all nurse leaders who will be guiding their teams through the merger. - Do not overcrowd or saturate the slides with information. Each slide should serve as a visual prompt for your detailed explanations.
- Cover and Reference Slides:
- Cover Slide: Include your presentation title, your name, the course title, institution, and the date.
- Reference Slide: At the end, include an APA-style slide that lists at least six scholarly references supporting your content.
Voiceover Narration:
- Record a clear, concise voiceover for each slide.
- Your narration should expand on the slide content by discussing strategies and outlining challenges that nurse leaders may face during a merger or acquisition.
- Demonstrate the application of evidence-based practice (EBP) by integrating relevant research, data, and scholarly insights into your discussion.
Formatting and Submission:
- APA 7th Edition: Ensure all content, including in-text references (if applicable) and the reference slide, adheres strictly to APA 7th Edition guidelines.
