ReadRight #9-Week 6 Open Discussion
Choose and closely examine or read 1 of the 14 texts/sources provided by the instructor on the week 1 module page.
After reading/examining your chosen text/source, put together a response that addresses the following questions directly:
1) Which text did you choose? Provide the title, author/creator, date, and publication.
2) Provide a specific direct passage or reference from the source you have chosen that details a specific point or reality about the issue of for-profit prisons. This response should be a direct passage or reference so punctuate accordingly.
3) What specifically did you learn personally about the issue of for-profit prisons from this particular direct passage/reference you highlighted in #2 above? (1-2 paragraph response)
4) Using the direct passage or reference cited above, how exactly is the issue of for-profit prisons a significant community issue in America today? How is the issue of for-profit prisons a “shared” issue in America today? (1-2 paragraph response)
Feel free to use “I” as you develop responses.
Avoid a simple retelling of the text as your response.
Punctuate and proofread responses properly.
After posting your response, reply to at least 2 classmates’ responses.
These minimum of 2 replies must be 1-2 complete paragraphs of no less than 4+ sentences.
Avoid replies that simply agree with classmate. Highlight or challenge a specific point, perspective, idea, or reaction made by a classmate. Develop the student’s initial comment further by adding your own spin or understandings. Again, feel free to push back on your classmates to develop a thoughtful and engaging discussion.
In order to receive full credit for participation in this discussion, students must both post an appropriate response AND reply to at least 2 classmates’ responses before deadline.
All ReadRight discussions have a hard deadline, so there are no make-ups after the deadline arrives.
