In this assignment, you will write a formal rhetorical analysis essay examining Barack Obamas keynote address delivered at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Boston, Massachusetts. Delivered on July 27, 2004, this speech launched Obama into national prominence and remains one of the most studied political speeches in contemporary American history.

Your essay must identify and analyze specific instances of all three Aristotelian rhetorical appeals in the speech. Use the following definitions:

Format: Word Document formatted in APA 7th Edition throughout
Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
Spacing: Double-spaced throughout, including references
Margins: 1 inch on all sides
Alignment: Left-aligned body text (not justified)
You must cite the original video and any other source you use.
You cannot exceed the 20% of the AI and similarity reports.
Your essay must follow this structure:
- Introduction (1 paragraph): Introduce the speech, its context, and end with a clear, argumentative thesis statement that makes a claim about how Obama uses rhetorical appeals to achieve his purpose.
- Body Ethos (12 paragraphs): Identify at least two specific instances of ethos in the speech. Quote directly from the speech, provide APA in-text citations, and analyze how each instance establishes credibility or trust.
- Body Pathos (12 paragraphs): Identify at least two specific instances of pathos. Analyze the emotional appeals and explain what emotions are being evoked and why they are effective for Obamas audience.
- Body Logos (12 paragraphs): Identify at least two specific instances of logos. Examine the reasoning, evidence, or logical structure Obama employs and evaluate its persuasive force.
- Conclusion (1 paragraph): Synthesize your analysis. Do not simply summarize reflect on the overall rhetorical effectiveness of the speech and its broader significance.
- References Page: Include a properly formatted APA 7th edition references page as the final page of the document.
