MY TOPIC QUESTION: How does playing sports during early childhood affect a childs physical, emotional and social development?
final paper instructions- This is your fourth and final written assignment for this course. You have gathered 30 different references (AI, personal interviews and peer reviewed articles) during the semester. You will now compare the different sources and answer your topic question for yourself. Because you have 30 sources to compare, this is considered a substantial paper. Most schools consider this to be a 15-20 page paper. If you end up with less than 10 pages double spaced you need to go deeper in your analysis.
Requirements for this paper:
- Introduction: Hook your reader, introduce your topic question and present your thesis or answer to your question.
- Body Paragraphs: This is where you present your argument for your thesis. Compare and contrast your different sources. You can do this in two different formats: point by point or block method.
- Point by Point Method: Dedicate each paragraph to a specific point of comparison and discuss each source or group of sources within that paragraph. (For example: Pros – break down each reason why this might be a good idea in a separate paragraph and cons – each reason it might be a bad idea)
- Block Method: Summarize each group of sources in their own paragraph and then compare the three in a final body paragraph.
- Conclusion: Summarize your analysis, restate your thesis or answer your question in new words and offer a final thought on the importance of this information.
- Reference Page: You will have multiple sources and they should be in APA format. ()
Remember – this is your evaluation of the sources. This should not have quotes from other sources – it should be in YOUR words. I want to hear your voice in the paper.
TIPS:
- I am asking you to answer your own question – maybe you are or will be a parent someday and this will be important to how you parent!
- Use evidence – support your points and your final decision with specific examples from your sources
- This is a comparison paper – use comparative words like similarly, likewise, in contrast, however, unlike etc. to guide your reader.
- Ultimately I want you to explain to me why you chose to answer the topic question the way you do.
