Stakeholder Map

You began this map in Session B. This page is where you submit the completed version. The map should reflect any revisions you made after peer critique especially to Q4, which asks who is absent from the frame.

Capstone Milestone Week 3

Due before Week 4 Session A. Upload to the Canvas assignment submission below.

Format: One page Word or PDF Any layout that clearly answers all four questions.

What to Submit

Your map must address all four questions for the AI system or context you are investigating for your capstone. Apply them to your specific topic not in the abstract.

1

Who are the actors?

Companies, governments, regulators, researchers, workers, affected communities, users named specifically.

2

Who benefits?

Concrete benefits financial, political, operational connected to specific actors. “Society” is not an answer.

3

Who bears costs?

Surveillance, displacement, data extraction, environmental harm, loss of autonomy mapped to specific communities.

4

Who is absent from the frame?

Who is affected but not represented in how this system is described, regulated, or defended? This is the most important question and the one most likely to be thin in early drafts. Return to it after peer critique.

Format

One page. Any format that clearly answers all four questions is acceptable a Word document, a PDF, a photo of a hand-drawn map, a slide, a table, a diagram. The format is yours to choose; the four questions are not optional.

Optional Word Template

A fillable Word template is available below if you would like a ready-made structure. It includes the four questions in a two-column layout with writing space, a student info block, and a submission reminder. Download it, fill it in, and upload the completed file to Canvas.

Grading

The Stakeholder Map is evaluated on specificity and completeness not on the sophistication of your capstone topic at this stage. A map that names vague categories (“companies,” “users”) earns partial credit. A map that names specific actors and shows genuine engagement with Q4 earns full credit.

Criterion What earns full credit
Q1 Actors Specific named entities not general categories. At least five distinct actors identified.
Q2 Benefits Concrete, named benefits tied to specific actors. Avoids generic claims (“everyone benefits”).
Q3 Costs Specific harms (not just “privacy concerns”) mapped to specific communities or actors.
Q4 Absent actors At least one specifically named group or community who is affected but structurally excluded from the system’s official framing, with a brief explanation of why they are absent.

Team Submissions

If working in a team, one submission per team is sufficient but include all team members’ names on the document. Solo students submit individually. If your team or solo status has changed since your Capstone Declaration, note the change in your submission.
