El Filibusterismo is the second novel written by Jos Rizal and published in 1891. It is a darker and more serious sequel to Noli Me Tangere.

The story follows Simoun, a wealthy jeweler who is actually Crisstomo Ibarra in disguise. Unlike his idealistic past, Simoun now seeks revenge against the corrupt Spanish colonial government and the friars. He uses manipulation and influence to incite a revolution, hoping to destroy the system that oppressed him and his country.

The novel highlights themes of injustice, abuse of power, and the consequences of revenge. It shows that while reform and peaceful change may fail, violence and vengeance can also lead to tragedy. In the end, Simouns plans collapse, emphasizing Rizals warning about the cost of hatred and the need for genuine reform.
