This discussion establishes the foundation for evaluating the quality and strength of evidence that will later support your PICOT question and research process throughout the course.
Detailed Instructions
For this discussion, students will begin by exploring the concept of evidence hierarchy as a foundation for research appraisal and evidence-based practice. This discussion is intended to prepare students for identifying the most appropriate types of literature to support a clinical research problem.
In the initial post, address the following:
- Identify one level of evidence from the evidence hierarchy.
- Describe the characteristics of this level of evidence.
- Explain why this level is appropriate for your intended clinical topic, problem, or area of interest.
- Discuss the strengths and limitations of using this level of evidence in nursing research.
- Reflect on how understanding evidence levels supports safe, high-quality, and evidence-based nursing care.
General Discussion Requirements
- Initial Post: Due Wednesday by 11:59 PM
- Peer Replies: Submit at least two (2) scholarly peer responses by Saturday at 11:59 PM
- Initial Post Length: Minimum 250300 words
- Peer Response Length: Minimum 150 words each
- Scholarly Support: Each initial post must include:
- At least one current peer-reviewed scholarly source (within the last 5 years)
- The course textbook may be used in addition to, but not in place of, the scholarly source
- APA Format: All citations and references must follow APA 7th edition
- Writing Expectations: Responses must reflect graduate-level academic writing, professional tone, clarity, and critical thinking
- Engagement Requirement: Peer responses must move beyond agreement and should contribute meaningfully to scholarly dialogue by expanding, critiquing, or applying the concepts discussed
