In this lesson, we learned about different kinds of literature that meet specific academic standards, such as peer review. For this assignment, you will use the library databases to find a scholarly, peer-reviewed article about your area of interest. You will then use Google or another web-based search engine to find a non-scholarly article about the same topic.
Once youve read both articles, you will compare and contrast them. Think about the following as you analyze these articles.
- What is the tone of each article?
- Who is the intended audience for each article?
- Is the article in the first, second, or third person? Why do you think that is the way it was written?
- How can you verify the facts and statements presented in each article?
- What kinds of bias do you find in each article? Is that addressed in the article? If so, how?
- What other similarities and differences do you find in these two articles?
Length: 5 to 10 pages (approximately 250 words per page), not including title and reference pages.
