Assignment: Individual Persuasive Pitch Eco-Tourism in Texas

Overview

Write a professionally persuasive message recommending the launch of eco-tourism for the San Marcos River area or another relevant location in Texas of your choosing. The message should be directed to the leader(s) of an organization or entity who could realistically implement your recommendation (such as a city department, university office, or relevant agency). Use the AIM writing process throughout.


Format Requirements

  • Length: No more than one page, single-spaced
  • Font: Times New Roman or Arial, size 11 minimum
  • File format: Must be saved and submitted as a PDF
  • No memo format required
  • Must include a separate References page (not counted in the one-page limit)
  • Must include a separate Outline/Diagram page (also not counted in the one-page limit)

Structure of the Message

The message must follow the AIM writing process and include these elements in order:

  1. Attention-Getting Opening Begin with a compelling statement, statistic, or short story to hook the reader
  2. Goal Statement State your primary recommendation clearly and directly, upfront
  3. The Pitch (Body) This is the core of the message. It must include your 3 supporting points, each backed by research. The four sections below must appear in the body and must be clearly labeled in bold
  4. Call to Action End with a direct call to action before your closing thank-you

Four Required & Labeled Sections (7 points each must be bolded and labeled exactly as shown)

Each section must be labeled so the reader can clearly identify where it begins. Missing labels = 0 points for that section.

  1. Return on Investment Prove your idea is worth pursuing with hard numbers and research. How does it generate value? How long before it becomes profitable?
  2. Targeted Demographics Who is the intended audience for this eco-tourism effort, and why? Explain your reasoning with evidence.
  3. Stakeholders Identify everyone affected by or invested in this idea directly and indirectly. This includes community members, businesses, universities, environmental groups, etc.
  4. Manageable Obstacles or Challenges What are the costs, risks, or downsides (monetary and otherwise)? Explain what they are and how they can be realistically overcome.

  • All sources must be published within the last 10 years
  • Cite all non-common-knowledge claims in-text using APA format
  • Include a full References page in APA format on a separate page

Create an outline or diagram of your key message points this serves as your AIM-guided draft or planning document. It must also include APA in-text citations for any factual claims made within it.
