We can better apply the principle Biodiversity sustains life on earth and its conservation is one of the basic principles of sustainability by first realizing what this means. Biodiversity is so incredibly important for how the planet functions and is necessary for humans to live. When applying this principle, it is important to remember the importance of keeping our biodiversity preserved. Throughout this assignment and reading, one of the practices I wanted to focus on was using fire to our advantage. By burning invasive grasses, as mentioned in the above information, we are limiting the possible spread of wildfires. Wildfires are highly dangerous, and can burn down important organisms that help us have our biodiversity. By burning the invasive species, which arent really necessary for their specific ecosystem, we prevent the fire as those grasses act as a pathway to other organisms burning down.

By using controlled burnings to protect biodiversity in California or the Mojave Desert (but is not limited to these areas), we are also protecting our social and economic infrastructures as it is a simpler process than alternatives, less expensive than other wildfire prevention strategies, and invasive. Due to these positives, our economic infrastructures will remain as unaffected as possible, while also limiting invasive species, protecting our biodiversity, and reducing wildfires. Our social economic infrastructures will also see the benefits of these results as they wont be affected by wildfires (as we have definitely seen in the past in California). As our biodiversity stays intact, humans have better chances of survival, because as I previously mentioned, biodiversity is incredibly important for humans, through farming, clean water and air, and protection of animals such as bees, who help these systems.
