    In essay 1, students must clearly and logically identify and word 2 separate root causes they believe are why their particular campus issue exists or persists.

    So, for example, the instructor’s example campus issue is “colleges/universities overreliance on adjunct/part-time faculty.”

    His 2 root causes that identify why this issue exists or persists are 1) Application of corporate practices/systems in higher education by college leadership and 2) Bottom-line approach to higher education

    mirroring those of large corporations.

    Consequently, the solutions part of the problem/solution essay will be identifying 1 “solution” for each of these 2 root causes.

    However, we must ID clear root causes to then ID solutions.

    This particular exercise will help students identify and detail root causes related to their issue.
