Introduction:
Sections 3.16 to 3.22 of your TriSuccess reading discuss how generative AI is a powerful tool that can significantly enhance your learning experience at Trident University International. However, as stressed in Sections 3.19 and 3.20, this is only true when used appropriately, with careful attention to digital citizenship, information literacy, and academic honesty.
This assignment will provide you with an opportunity to explore generative AI tools while applying information literacy techniques to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, you will practice using APA formatting and citing sources skills that will be required in your future courses. By completing this assignment, you will both deepen your understanding of AI tools and strengthen academic skills that will serve you throughout your studies.
Instructions:
- Review Sections 3.16 to 3.22 of TriSuccess prior to starting this assignment for an overview of Generative AI. Watch the video walk-through to help you in completing this assignment.
- Go to one of these Generative AI tools: https://gemini.google.com/), (https://chat.openai.com/), or (https://copilot.microsoft.com/).
- Use the Generative AI tool to request information on a topic of your choice (e.g., a hobby, area of interest, a historical period, something you would like to learn more about, etc.). For example, I want to visit Jamaica. Tell me what I should do when I go there.
- Engage in conversation by responding to its output. For example, ask it a follow up question, a clarification question, or for it to refine its answer. (Using the Jamaica example above, one could say, Refine the recommendations for a family of four with two adults, a kindergartner, and teenager.)
- Review TriSuccess 3.6 Evaluating Sources of Information and 3.7 Fact Checking, then fact-check one piece of information shared by the generative AI platform by finding another internet source on the same topic.
- Using a Word document, present the answers in complete sentences and paragraph form. There should be three paragraphs, with a minimum of 5 sentences provided for each paragraph. This paper should be about two pages in length. Be sure to proofread your work.
- Paragraph 1 (minimum 5 sentences): Describe which platform you chose, what you asked, and provide a summary of its output (stated in your own words).
- Paragraph 2 (minimum 5 sentences): Fact-check one piece of information provided by the AI platform. Specify what you checked, the resource you used, and whether the information you found confirmed or contradicted the AI output. Do you think the source you found is trustworthy? (Incorporate information from sections 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8 of TriSuccess reading in your answer.)
- Paragraph 3 (minimum 5 sentences): Share your personal reaction to the capabilities of generative AI. Reflect on both its strengths and weaknesses based on your experience and the module materials.
Answers should be written in complete sentences and paragraph form. There should be a minimum of 5 sentences provided for each question. This paper should be about one to two pages in length. Be sure to proofread your work.
Conduct a spelling and grammar check on your assignment. Refer to TriSuccess Module 4 Section 4.8 Editing Tools for assistance.
Before finalizing your assignment, review the grading rubric to ensure you have met the requirements. The rubric can be found on the assignments Dropbox page in the bottom right-hand corner under Activity Details.
