    Case Study

Review Chapter 2 and then read the scenario below.

    Scenario

Suzan has worked for Organization ABC for one year. During her 30-day review, Suzan received amazing scores from her supervisor. During her 60-day review, Suzans performance was deemed as acceptable, but her ability to communicate with her colleagues was lacking. During Suzans 90-day review, Suzans supervisor, at the time, expressed that her performance needed serious improvements. Unfortunately, Suzans supervisor noted the following:

    1. Suzan did not provide her colleagues with messages from customers and vendors.

    2. Suzans phone skills were ineffective, especially when interacting with customers.

    3. Suzans temper was a concern and she often raised her voice when she became frustrated.

You have been hired to replace Suzans previous supervisor. Between Suzans 90-day review and presently (her annual review), you have noticed that Suzans performance still is a problem. Before her departure from the organization, Suzans past supervisor stated, Suzan is nice; however, she is a horrible communicator. I cannot work with her, as she is such a challenge to deal with Good luck, as Suzan is one of the worst employees of Organization ABC.

During your first week in your new role as supervisor, you met with Suzan to understand more about her performance. She stated, I am a hard worker; however, I only was told what I was doing wrong. I am willing to learn. Can you help me become the best employee for Organization ABC? I want to succeed in this role.

As a supervisor, you know that you have various responsibilities. One of your responsibilities is to address performance deficiencies. Although Suzan was provided with a job description, which included detailed information about the critical nature of communication in her role, she needs additional support.

Examine pages 79 and 80 in your textbook. Then, create a plan, specific to Suzans needs, detailing how you will utilize the following to ensure improved performance:

    1. Observation and documentation

    2. Updates

    3. Feedback

    4. Resources

    5. Reinforcement

For example, when thinking about observation and documentation, what might you do to keep track of Suzans performance? Why? When thinking about updates, how will you keep Suzan updated? Explain and justify your rationale for each of the five components and why you made the recommendations that you provided.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

Be 4-6 pages in length, which does not include the title and reference pages, which are never a part of the content minimum requirements.

Use Saudi Electronic University academic writing standards and APA style guidelines.

Support your submission with course material concepts, principles and theories from the textbook and at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles.

Review the grading rubric to see how you will be graded for this assignment.

  • Discussion 5

you will need to answer 3 questions by other students in class. Choose questions that no one else has already answered and do not answer your own questions. You will need to write at least 250 words EACH QUESTION, and use the textbook and course materials to answer the question!

    Questions:

    1) People are going to make decisions about something once in their life, do you think people make these decisions on instinct, or is there a process that goes through the brain. Why or why not?

    2) While reading about self-justification, Aronson et al. explain that people often justify others, events, or circumstances to reduce cognitive dissonance. Rather than accepting that our original perspective may have been incomplete or incorrect, could this process sometimes reflect denialsettling for something that does not align with what we originally expected? What cues should we look for, or what questions can we ask ourselves, to become more aware and avoid falling into self-justification?

    3) Why do we experience post-decision dissonance, especially when we usually tend to justify decisions to boost our self-esteem?

    Assignment Instructions

One of the biggest mistakes we make when writing a narrative essay is that we tend to tell rather than show details. This means that we state things bluntly instead of painting a mental picture that can get the same information across in a better way. The reason its better to give readers a mental image instead of just telling them something (such as how a character feels) is because an image can convey much more information, while also engaging the reader in your story.

Lets look at an example of telling:

Sam was sad because he dropped his ice cream cone.

Now lets look at an example of showing this same information:

As the ice cream tumbled to the hot pavement, Sam burst into streaming tears.

The second version is the better of the two options because it gives the necessary information in a way that puts the reader into the scene as it unfolds. Conversely, the first option doesnt put the reader into the story, and isnt as engaging for the audience because of that fact.

    Step One:

Take a look at the following five lines of text that are all telling rather than showing.

    Telling Sentences:

    1. The dog was happy to go on a walk.
    2. Sally loved running.
    3. It was a big storm.
    4. The hall was really crowded.
    5. Michael was really good at his job.

    Step Two:

In a Word document, write a new version of the sentence where the information is shown through description and action (as the above example did). Feel free to add details to make the new version come alive.

    Step Three:

Submit your Word document by clicking Submit Assignment. Your document should:

    • Be 12 pt in size.
    • Be in Times New Roman font
    • Have 1-inch margins
    • Be double spaced
    • Be saved and submitted as a Word document (either .doc or .docx)
  • cm220 unit 10 discussion post

This week is also an opportunity to reflect on what you have accomplished this term and how it has contributed to your growth as a writer. Consider Gilberts (2014) video, , and or from your learning activities as you explore the opportunity to continue advocating for change and growing as a writer. Then, complete the following steps below:

    1. In the first paragraph, reflect on your presentation by answering one of the questions below and connecting it to this units reading:

    • What did you learn about digital media design?
    • What changes would you make to your digital media presentation, including visual enhancements, if you wanted to disseminate it to a wider audience via social media sites? Revisit from last week to get some specific ideas about what you could improve.
    • Do you think your presentation could generate change, and do you foresee pursuing this argument for change in the future?

    2. In the second paragraph, reflect on your growth as a persuasive communicator this term by answering at least two questions in a well-developed paragraph. How have your ideas about persuasive communication changed?

    • How did what you learned about effective persuasion and logical argument in CM220 help you in your current job or other classes? How might it benefit you in your future career?
    • What did you learn about research that you think will be beneficial in the future?
    • What improvements did you see in your writing after completing CM220?
    • What advice would you like to share with future students in CM220 about the class?
    • Do you think this course will make you more likely to advocate for changes in your community?

    3. Wrap up your post with at least one open-ended question for your classmates as you consider the next steps for community engagement or future writing goals.

    Reference the Reading:

Refer to and credit the unit reading concepts to help validate your ideas and give you practice with using and crediting source information. When you refer to concepts from the units reading, be sure to use a signal phrase like According to . . . [name of reading]. If you are directly quoting the reading or another source, be sure to use quotation marks and cite the source using proper APA in-text citations and full references. See the Purdue Global Writing Centers for resources on APA citation formatting.

Identify and write a summary of the various factors that contribute to the credibility of a research article related to a diagnosis of interest that you identified from the Sentinel U simulation on Patient Management & Delegation. In the module, there are 10 patients listed with various diagnosis. Select one diagnosis of interest to you from the simulation.

    Introduction

Evidence-based practice (EBP) integrates the best evidence available to guide optimal nursing care, with a goal to enhance safety and quality. EBP is crucial to nursing practice because it incorporates the best evidence from current literature, along with the expertise of the practicing nurse. The concern for quality care that flows from EBP generates a desired outcome. Without these factors, a nurse cannot be an effective leader. It is important to lead not only from this position but from knowledge and expertise. To gain the knowledge, you require a good understanding of how to search for scholarly resources, as well as make decisions regarding the content of the scholarly resources.

    Professional Context

As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, you will be responsible for providing patient-centered, competent care based on current evidence-based best practices. You will be required to do research, analysis, and dissemination of best evidence to stay abreast of these best practices. Understanding where to go to find credible evidence, determining the type of evidence and being able to make decisions based on the findings of credible evidence is the foundation of evidence-based care.

    Instructions

Write a 2-page analysis of a scholarly research article, demonstrating your ability to locate credible, useful evidence related to a diagnosis of interest selected from the Sentinel U simulation on Patient Management & Delegation. There are 10 patients, each with a different medical diagnosis. Select one patient with a diagnosis of interest to you. (I added a description of the patient i chose)

Once you have chosen your diagnosis of interest from the Sentinel U simulation, complete the following:

    • Use a credible search engine to locate a research article on your topic.
    • Review the article for the following criteria:
    • Type of study (quantitative or qualitative, the level on the pyramid of evidence, methodology).
    • Credibility factors.
    • Importance of content to selected diagnosis.
    • The ability to apply the content in your current workplace or patient population.
    • Take a screenshot of the abstract and paste it into a Word document (see the document). You can refer to the instructions in the document.
    • Create a table or series of text boxes next to or below the screenshot and use that to label each criterion.
    • Also take a screenshot of the patient and the diagnosis from Sentinel U simulation you used. (I will add my self)
    • Write up a summary of your findings on the second page. Note what information is important to your specified diagnosis. How credible is the article you’ve found and how useful is it related to your specified diagnosis and your ability to apply it?
    • Include a link to your article.
    • Include a reference to your article in APA format.

Review the Analyzing a Research Paper scoring guide for specific details of grading prior to submission.

    Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

    • Competency 1: Interpret findings from scholarly quantitative, qualitative, and outcomes research articles and studies.
    • Determine the type of study and the level of evidence according to the pyramid of evidence.
    • Identify the credibility factors of an article.
    • Summarize the findings of an article, noting what information is important to a specified diagnosis.
    • Competency 2: Analyze the relevance and potential effectiveness of evidence when making a decision.
    • Summarize the ability to generalize article findings in a specified work space and patient population.
    • Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead practice changes based on evidence.
    • Provide an APA-formatted reference and link to an article
