- Each student will attend and engage in a cultural event that represents a culture different from your own. This activity is designed to help you gain cultural knowledge and awareness of your own biases, increase sensitivity to culturally diverse people, and become more culturally effective helpers. The purpose is to help you gain new and direct knowledge of a culture with which you have little or no experience. You should choose an event in which you will be the minority. For example, attend a Caucasian church if you are African American or attend an LGBTQ event if you are heterosexual. Movies and museums are not acceptable experiences.
