Integration Project (total 50%): This formal academic synthesis provides an opportunity to briefly articulate how to integrate and synthesize research, theory, and applied perspectives as related to course themes. Consists of the following components:
Project proposal (10%): This assignment will offer beginning practice in conceptualizing, identifying articles, and reading and synthesizing research articles on a topic of your choice related to the development of young children. The proposal includes a rationale for the proposed study, explicit theoretical orientation, and specific questions that the literature review aims to address. (Discuss in class 2/21, formal proposal due 2/22 by 11:59 P.M.)
Preliminary evidence of analysis and synthesis (15%): Students may select a format (e.g., annotated bibliography, chart) where they catalog the findings from a minimum of 5 articles and provide a brief synthesis of findings and limitations. Students should articulate next steps they plan to pursue and/or additional issues they have identified. (due 3/15 by 11:59 P.M.)
Peer review (5%): Students will be paired and provide and receive feedback on their preliminary literature synthesis (give to peer/professor 4/5 by 11:59 P.M.; receive feedback by 4/12)
Literature review and application integration presentation (5%): Students will present a synthesis of their literature review as it relates to implications for practice, policy, and research and respond to class feedback and questions. (scheduled in class 4/25)
*On this part* Literature Review (15%): The final literature review or alternative product should summarize the knowledge and evidence on a topic, and articulate the strengths and weaknesses of current understanding. The literature review should be theoretically grounded, draw on at least 10-15 scholarly sources, and build and provide evidence for an argument that is linked to implications for future research, policy, and practice.
