Looking back at my academic experience, one instance of procrastination that stands out involved a personal essay I had to write for a scholarship application. The stakes felt high, and every time I sat down to write, I would stare at a blank page and eventually give up. Days turned into weeks, and before I knew it, the deadline had almost passed. The deeper reason behind my delay was not a lack of effort or interest, but rather a fear that my story would not be compelling enough to impress the selection committee. This type of procrastination aligns with the TriSuccess discussion in Section 2.10, which identifies self-esteem protection as a key driver of avoidance behavior.

Moving forward, I have developed strategies that help me address this challenge head on. One of the most effective tools I use is journaling my thoughts before starting a formal writing task. Free writing without judgment helps me get ideas out of my head and onto paper, which reduces the pressure of trying to write perfectly from the start. I also set a firm personal deadline that is several days before the actual due date, giving myself a buffer for revisions. Accordingly , implementation intentions, which are specific plans for when, where, and how to complete a task, significantly reduce procrastination. Combining these strategies has helped me build a more disciplined and confident approach to completing important assignments.

I often struggled with procrastination throughout both my schoolwork and my military duties. For example, I remember one instance when I delayed starting a significant writing assignment for class. I told myself I was just busy, but the reality was that I didnt know how to begin. TriSuccess Section 2.10 explains that procrastination often stems from underlying worries, such as fear of making mistakes or of not meeting expectations. In my experience, not fully understanding the instructions made the assignment feel overwhelming, so I put it off until the last minute. This pattern repeated itself with some of my military tasks as well, especially when I felt unsure about the best way to approach them. Over time, I have realized that procrastination is often a sign that I need more clarity or confidence to move forward.

To avoid falling into procrastination and ensure I keep working toward my goals, I have developed a few practical strategies. First, I break large tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. This makes big assignments feel less intimidating and helps me make steady progress. I also create a weekly schedule to set aside specific times for schoolwork, military responsibilities, and personal activities. By planning ahead, I can stay organized and avoid last-minute rushes. Starting assignments early, even if its just reading the instructions, brainstorming, or creating a simple outline, helps me overcome the initial hurdle of getting started. Additionally, I remind myself of my long-term goals, such as earning my degree and advancing in the Army, which keeps me focused and motivated. Staying connected with classmates and colleagues for support and accountability has also made a difference. These habits have helped me improve my time management, reduce stress, and avoid putting things off. By continuing to use these strategies, I am building stronger self-discipline and staying on track with my commitments.

One scam Ive encountered involves fake websites that claim to offer online tools, software, or services, often promising free access, big discounts, or exclusive features. These sites are designed to look like legitimate providers, but their real goal is to trick users into divulging personal information or paying money. For example, someone I know tried to access a popular design tool through a site that looked almost identical to the official one, but after entering payment details, they never received access, and their information was misused. This highlights the importance of information literacy and the use of evaluation tools, such as the TRAP test, to stay safe online.

Using the TRAP test, several red flags become clear. Timing: The site appeared during a surge in demand for online tools, when scammers know people are eager to find solutions. Relevance: The ad targeted users searching for popular or hard-to-find software, suggesting manipulative marketing rather than a legitimate provider. Authority: The website lacked verifiable contact information, customer support, and trustworthy reviews. Purpose: The promise of free access and pressure to get it now made the true goal was obviously to collect personal data or payments, not to deliver a real service.

To avoid scams like these, always verify that a website offering tools or software is legitimate before providing any personal or payment information. Check if the website uses HTTPS, look for authentic reviews on independent sites, and confirm the company has a real history and support channels. Compare offers with reputable official sources and be especially cautious with deals that seem unrealistic. Building these habits can help protect your data and keep you safe from online fraud.

I think the explosive growth of the internet, along with a lack of proper awareness and training to identify online scams, are the biggest reasons why scammers are so effective. Personally, I have seen friends and family have their online identities stolen through fake social media accounts. These fake accounts often message close friends or relatives asking for money, accompanied by a made-up melodramatic story. These stories typically involve needing money for an expensive surgery or claiming that they have lost their job and cannot pay their bills, preying on empathetic people who are unable to identify the red flags associated with this type of scam.

In my experience, scammers will steal previously posted photos and attempt to create a realistic “timeline” by posting periodically to avoid suspicion. In the TRAP test, this would relate to timeliness. One first things I notice is how spaced out the posts are, sometimes only weeks apart. Additionally, these photos are often noticeably lower in quality, and given how advanced most phone cameras are nowadays, it just doesnt make sense. It’s not difficult to take things offline and confirm whether the account is legitimate. In the unfortunate case that someone falls for the story, another major red flag is when the scammer asks for any kind of financial information. At that point, it should be clear that it is a scam, and the account should immediately be flagged for impersonation and fraud.

The best thing to make would be a monthly budget tracker for Microsoft Excel because it would help not only in a personal budget but also in a professional budget. The spreadsheet would have rows for various sources of income, fixed costs like rent and utilities, and variable costs like transportation and groceries well labeled. Monthly totals, remaining balances and percentage of income spent in each category would be automatically calculated using Excel formulas like SUM and IF statement. A conditional format would highlight the cells in red if the spending category is in excess of its budgeted amount, so that there is an immediate visual alert. The main advantage of this is the clarity of the financial situation: instead of making a best-guess estimate from memory, you can see all the numbers at a glance and make informed decisions about changes. Microsoft Excel has the best software for this job as it is designed specifically for numerical data, dynamic calculation, and is structured row and column organization. A word processor like Microsoft Word can’t do calculations and a presentation tool like PowerPoint is for showing, not entering data and formula-driven analysis (Gaskin et al., 2020).

The second valuable creation is a presales technology reference document created in MS Word. A well-defined reference guide can save a lot of time before sales meetings, if you need to present several enterprise technology solutions to clients in different industries. This document would have segments of it labeled accordingly to each product, a value proposition in a nutshell, industries of interest and relevant use cases. Word’s heading styles, the built-in table of contents feature, and tables make it easy to organize dense information in a readable, navigable format. Microsoft Word is the most suitable application for this deliverable because it was created specifically for long-form, structured written content, and is the industry standard for professional documents (Shelly & Vermaat, 2021).
