Throughout the course of the semester, we have discussed the different branches of the criminal justice systems (police, courts, corrections, and the juvenile justice system). In these discussions, we have covered their purposes and proceedings, as well as many policies and issues relating to each branch. You will now write a 25-page paper on a chosen criminal justice policy relating to one of the branches in the criminal justice system (police, courts, or corrections) and critically analyze it. Using a minimum of 3 scholarly sources, you will provide a historical background on your chosen policy, as well as its original intentions. Then you will critically analyze the policy based on its intentions, effectiveness, and consequences (if any). Finally, draw a well-researched conclusion based on your critical assessment of the policy. Here, lay out your own position on the policy and provide any recommendations for reform. I have included some examples to help you get started or to understand what I mean:
Police stop and frisk, mandatory arrest, militarization, etc.
Courts mandatory minimums, capital punishment, bail, etc.
Corrections solitary confinement, prison privatization, parole, etc.
