I included the last assignment I did.. Rhetorical Analysis Pre-writing so you can see which ad I picked. I want to use the AMAZON ad please from the list. Also my instructor said this: Class,

Okay, where to begin? This assignment is to analyze the rhetoric (language of persuasion) used by one of the texts (could be video) listed in the Sample Topics list. I want you to make a clear claim that the webpage is or is not effective at reaching its target audience. So, you will:

-Write an introduction establishing the context for your chosen text and briefly introduce rhetoric and the appeals.

-Your thesis should be something very similar to this: “The [named text] is effective/is ineffective at communicating with their target audience by using Logos, Ethos, and Pathos (you may list them in whatever order you like, but address them in the paper in the order you list them here)

-First body paragraph may address identifying the target audiences – primary, secondary, even tertiary. This is an optional step, but is a good idea.

-Second body paragaph addresses Logos appeals on the primary source. Cite examples from

text

-Third body paragraph addresses Ethos appeals on the primary source. Cite examples

-Fourth body paragraph addresses Pathos appeals on the primary source. Cite examples

-Final paragraph offers a conclusion. This restates the main thesis, providing some closure and wrapping up. DO NOT introduce new material here. Depending on whether or not you give a paragraph to audience analysis, you’ll have 5 or 6 paragraphs. I don’t care which.

– You will have a References list in which you cite the primary source and TWO more outside sources. These sources should be on rhetoric, not on the topic of your source. Using sources about the primary source topic will only encourage you to shift focus away from rhetoric, or wedge something off-point into your paper. Neither is a good strategy. Use one of the following sites if youre having trouble finding one of your own:

(look for articles under For Scholars on the left hand toolbar)

This is a great site with tons of information!

*This is yellow light AI assignment. You may use AI to help you with idea generation, proofreading and the like, but may not use AI to draft your essay. Your actual essay should be yours & yours alone.

P.S. If you choose to use the Amazon ad, note that using secondary sources that explain or summarize the ad for you are not effective sources, as they are simply summarizing and sometimes superficially analyzing the ad for you. The point of this assignment is for you to do the work of close textual analysis yourself, not subcontract it to another published source. DO NOT USE AI PLEASE. Also I already wrote this that needs included in the assignment: You will use your completed pre-writing worksheet from Topic 1 to draft the first draft of the Rhetorical Analysis Essay due in Topic 2. Read Chapter 3, in the e-text Writing with Purpose, focusing on the Body Paragraphs section. You may also refer to the How to organize your essay document, located in the Topic 2 Class Resources or your instructors guidelines.

As you construct your first draft, be sure to have:

  • an introduction that ends in your thesis statement
  • body paragraphs with a solid topic sentence, supporting examples, explanation and conclusions
  • a final conclusion that restates your thesis, addresses a few key points and final summation

For this discussion question, write and share a body paragraph for your Rhetorical Analysis draft. During the week, respond to your peers body paragraphs, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement. and I posted this: One of the most effective rhetorical strategies used in the Amazon Alexa advertisement is pathos, or emotional appeal. The commercial uses humor and relatable everyday situations to connect with its audience. For example, the ad shows exaggerated failed ideas before presenting Alexa as a reliable solution, which creates a lighthearted and entertaining tone (Amazon, 2024). This approach helps the audience feel more comfortable with the product because it reflects real-life frustrations in a humorous way. By making viewers laugh and recognize similar experiences, the advertisement builds a positive emotional connection with the audience. Overall, the use of humor makes the product more appealing and memorable, increasing the likelihood that viewers will view Alexa as a helpful and trustworthy device.
