The global and US National Health System can seem like a web of confusion. This exercise is to help you streamline understanding of how health policies are implemented across the globe and within the USA. Please consider a COVID specific policy that may have affected you in your day to day work or home life. How do you imagine this policy went through the World Health Organization and then through the US National Health System?
- Using the resources provided above, use one WHO organizational structure and/ or US National Organizational health structure. Outline how decisions and domino effects around a global crisis, like COVID-19, are shared.
- See above Learning Journal from Learning Activity 3: Global and National Health during COVID Era. Consider this situation that you were in which COVID affected. Now determine how certain policies were implemented and determine how their COVID policies affected you.
- Consider one of your own COVID experiences. How did the supply chain affect the situation you were in?
- Perhaps the grocery store was out of certain foods you enjoy?
- Or something else was not available due to the supply chain?
- Now pick a policy that may have affected your situation and consider how that was implemented on the global and national levels in order to create a domino effect to affect you.

Summative:The health system is a complex array for multiple countries and organizations that work together to improve the health quality and access of patients at a lower cost. The WHO provides guidance on a global scale for countries to align health goals. They do this through systematic review and dissemination of policies and procedures that trickle down to the national country levels. The United States Health System is an example of one of the countries that aligns goals with the WHO. During the COVID-19 era, this was crucial to de-escalate the spread of the COVID virus. The US Health System took WHOs guidance and implemented policies to ensure safe COVID practices. Consider one of these COVID policies and outline what an implementation strategy at a US based health system would look like.
