Module 12: Discussion Assignment Instructions
Introduction
The video on page 12.1 also provides a detailed explanation of the expectations for this discussion.
Step 1: Sign Up for a Term
Sign up for a term using the Module 12 Sign-Up PadletLinks to an external site..
The Padlet is organized into columns based on the four sections of the chapter. Scroll to see all available options. Each term is limited to two sign-ups. If your preferred term already has two students signed up, please select a different term.
Step 2: Read the Chapter Section That Contains Your Term
What does the textbook say about your term’s meaning and importance? Summarize this definition or explanation in your own words and include it on Slide 1.
Step 3: Search for Images and Additional Resources
Search for images and additional resources related to your topic. Select three sources to read, watch, or listen to in their entirety.
Keep track of your sources for images and information. If your images come from a different page than the websites you plan to use as your key resources, make sure to include the links for the image pages as well.
Evaluate the reliability of your sources. See page 12.4: Resource Examples and Evaluation Tools. The most important factor to consider is the authority and credibility of the author. A quick way to assess this is to search for the individual or organization online.
Pick the most interesting things you find to share with your classmates in your discussion post.
A note on AI use: You may use AI tools for this assignment to get a general overview of your topic and to help identify potential sources. However, AI tools do not count toward your three required sources. You must visit any referenced websites and read or watch the material directly from the source. Any sources suggested by an AI tool must also be evaluated for reliability using the criteria outlined on page 12.4: Resource Examples and Evaluation Tools.
Step 4: Create a Slide Deck
Create a slide deck using the following structure:
First slide: The term or concept and the textbook definition, with citation.
Middle slides: More information and images what do you think is interesting and important for your classmates to know?
Last slide: Share your sources (three or more links) along with a brief explanation of each author’s authority on the topic. If no author is listed, identify the publication or organization that produced the material and explain why it is a credible source.
Grading
Please refer to the assignment rubric for grading criteria.
