This week, we took a look at a few songs and how their lyrics can be considered a portrait.
** Reminder: A portrait is defined by a creative producing a depiction of another person or people.
Based on what we’ve learned so far in this class about portraits, as well as what we discussed regarding song lyrics and portraiture, select a song and write a 400-word-long reflection.
As you write your reflection, please consider the following:
- What or whose perspective are the lyrics from?
- What point or message is the song attempting to convey?
- How is the song you selected a portrait?
- Who is it about?
- Does the sound of the music in this song emphasize the message or theme of the lyrics?
Guidelines:
To earn full credit:
- Share the title of the song you’ve chosen & the name of the band or artist
- Directly quote from the lyrics of the song you have chosen AT LEAST ONCE to highlight how it is a portrait.
- Example:
- In the song “Sienna” by The Maras, lead singer Mara Zardoya paints a portrait of what her daughter could have been like. She sings, “Ohh, Sienna would’ve been cute. Ohh, Sienna would look just like you.”
