The purpose of this assignment is to examine the concept of the American dream as a major
theme expressed in the play A Raisin in the Sun. In the form of an infographic, students will define
and prepare a comparative analysis of the American dream concept over time by citing a scholarly
definition of the term (one time period), providing their own definition (second time period), and
interviewing someone belonging to a generation other than their own (third time period). In
addition, students will exercise their creativity and digital skills by creating aesthetic that captures
and communicates their ideas. Finally, students will exhibit their knowledge of the MLA citation
guidelines by properly citing their resources.
Tasks
1. Find an infographic template that you would like to use via Canva or another program of
your choice.
2. Find and cite a scholarly (obtained from GALILEO only) definition of the American dream
concept. Include it in the draft of your infographic.
3. Define what the American dream means to and for you? Include it in the draft of your
infographic.
4. Interview someone, a family member, friend, professor/staff, who belongs to a
generation other than your own. The person can be older or younger than you. Your
interview should center their definition of the American dream. Some potential
interview questions are listed below.
o How did you define the American dream concept when you were younger?
o Has your thinking about the concept changed?
o How do you define success?
o Do you believe the American dream is obtainable today? Was it ever?
o What advice or wisdom would you like to share with me/my generation about
pursuing the American dream?
5. Write a thesis statement that captures the similarities and similarities between the three
definitions of the American dream. Include it in the draft of your infographic.7. Review the student sample infographic (Grade A) attached to the dropbox before
finalizing your infographic.
8. Your infographic should include an explicit thesis statement that captures the overall
message that you want to convey about the American dream.
9. Your infographic should include a hyperlink to at least one song on YouTube. Include the
song as a hyperlink with its title.
10. Your infographic should include at least three images.
11. The Match Overview percentage should be between 0-25%. Your AI percentage should
be close to 0%.
12. Your infographic should have a unique and creative title.
