Management Question

In this assessment, learners will deepen their understanding of negotiation theory by observing its practical application, recognizing effective and ineffective approaches, and reflecting on how strategic negotiation decisions impact outcomes.

Instructions:

In this assignment, you will choose a video that illustrates a real-world negotiation (from a business negotiation, political debate, historical event, or a popular media portrayal) and analyze how the negotiation strategies and techniques demonstrated in the video align with the principles, steps, and strategies we have explored this week.

Find a video that depicts a real or fictional negotiation, one that demonstrates key negotiation tactics and strategies in action. This could be from a documentary, interview, negotiation training video, news coverage, or even a scene from a movie or series. It could be a business negotiation (merger, sale), a conflict resolution, a crisis negotiation (law enforcement), or political negotiation (peace treaties). Consider the following questions while you watch the video:

  1. What is the context of the negotiation?
  2. Who are the parties involved?
  3. What negotiation tactics and strategies can you identify being used (BATNA, bargaining/problem solving, implementation, Getting to Yes).
  4. How do the negotiators handle obstacles or challenges during the process?
  5. Is there anything you would have done differently if you were involved in the negotiation? Why or why not?
