Due: Monday, April 27th by 11:59 PM

The requirements for the Section 3 Composition as are follows:

  1. Within your chosen DAW you are to create a composition that fulfills the following criteria:
    • It must be at least 8-12 measures in duration
    • The composition must have a clear form/structure. It can’t be one loop that goes on for the entire duration.
    • Contain a minimum of 3 tracks
      • Individual drum sounds do not count as a single track
    • Your composition must not clip. Keep an eye on the mixer and balance the tracks. Remember: red means clipping and clipping is bad.
    • No use of audio. The composition should only consist of MIDI.
    • No use of and AI tools.
  2. Your composition must include the following techniques:
    • Use of MIDI sequencing
    • Utilization of at least two different kinds of Automation
    • Editing the parameters of VSTs and use of effects
    • Your project must not clip, either on individual tracks or the Stereo Out

Other considerations and ideas for your project:

  • The composition can be in any style or genre. Do not feel that you have make an EMD Banger or any other type of conventional genre; whatever direction your composition takes is perfectly fine.
  • Again: Use of audio is not and Use of AI tools is not allowed.

Submit all required materials via Moodle. BandLab users please post a direct link to your studio session in the written portion of the submission; be sure to have my email () set as a collaborator. Other DAW users be sure to compress the file before uploading it to Moodle. Email me if you have questions regarding the requirements listed above.

In addition to the finished DAW Composition, you will also submit a written response between 150 to 250 words. Within it, repose to the following questions:

  • Compared to the other two compositions youve created; how did you find the approach working in a DAW?
  • What are your thoughts on working with MIDI?
  • What is the aesthetic of your piece?

Submit this portion of composition as some sort of text file. Preferable as a Word document (.doc or .docx). No PDF or fixed formats, an editable text file please (so I can leave comments et cetera). A comment on the Moodle submission page does not meet this requirement.

No use of AI / Chat GPT in any written materials.
