Select and research a culture that is represented in the ELL population in your school, previous school, state, or country in which you have taught or intend to teach. You can investigate, among other relevant things, school culture differences and similarities; cultural communication styles; nonverbal communication; child/parent interaction; parent/teacher interaction; and significant elements in their culture that you believe a teacher should be aware of before teaching a student from this culture. Such important elements could be significant points in history that have shaped this cultures worldview, food prohibitions, cultural taboos, cultural artifacts like clothing items, etc. From this research, you will create a 5-page briefing report for teachers who are unfamiliar with the culture. After the cover page in APA format, discuss important elements of the culture that a teacher should know on pages 1-3. On page 4, include two cultural adaptations you would make in your professional practice when working with someone from this culture. On page 5, discuss how this cultural study has helped you to meet Standard 2: ELLs in the Sociocultural Context of the national TESOL standards, found on page 8 in the following document.

to an external site.

The culture study should have at least 5 sources, which can range from articles to websites to YouTube videos about the culture, school culture, and significant differences/similarities between cultures. All 5 sources should be in a reference section in APA format.

Clarificatory Note: Selected Culture

For this mini-cultural study, I selected Iranian/Persian culture

Learning about Iranian culture may help educators better understand how religion, family values, social expectations, education, and political contexts can shape students identities, communication styles, and learning experiences.

This cultural exploration also provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that English learners may experience when adapting to new linguistic and cultural environments. By studying cultures that are unfamiliar to us, educators can become more empathetic, inclusive, and culturally responsive in their teaching practices.
