Art Appreciation Formal Analysis Paper
Refer to Chapter 3-5 in your textbook for explanations of the art elements and principles, and art analysis.
Art elements: Line, shape, Mass, Time&Motion,
– Concentrate on formal analysis. Write about the art elements and principles. Although you will tie the art elements and principles to the story or meaning of the work, the paper should be about what you SEE in the work.
– Should be your own analysis. Should NOT be written by AI. Write about the elements and principles that are seen in the work.
– Choose an artwork that clearly has elements and principles that you can write about. Don’t choose the most obvious artworks (Mona Lisa, Starry Night, Last Supper, etc.) that you have seen a million times. It’s more interesting and easier to write if it is an artwork that you haven’t seen before or written about before.
– Look for an artwork with some recognizable things or an interesting story. You’re writing about what you SEE in the work. So if you don’t know what you’re looking at or if there isn’t much happening, it will be difficult.
– PICK ONE ARTWORK TO WRITE ABOUT.
