You are required to complete a 10 to 12-page research paper that analyzes a major problem facing todays juvenile justice system. An introduction must summarize and define your topic, including a clear statement of the problem or issue at hand. You must also select a theoretical framework for your issue and describe its relevance to the issue that you write about.
Integration of Other CJBS Courses:
I highly recommend drawing on material from other CJBS courses you have taken. For example, classes such as Police Use of Force, Youth, Crime and Justice, Police Work with Juveniles, Police and Diversity, Victimology, Urban Anthropology, and Women in Policing offer valuable theories, concepts, and perspectives. You are encouraged to integrate this knowledge into your paper by applying relevant theories and concepts and referencing them to strengthen your analysis and support your arguments.
The body of the paper must include summaries of current relevant research from a minimum of five (5) credible sources, including some of the assigned readings. The paper needs to be formatted in conformity with APA rules.
Some examples might be:
-Disproportionate minority confinement, recidivism, gang issues, drug use, juvenile curfews, zero tolerance policy for/with school searches, socio-economic factors affecting delinquency and parental liability for juvenile offenses, and life without parole for juvenile offender
Cite all relevant concepts and sources discussed in the course.
The paper must:
Include a title page, introduction, body, conclusion, page numbers, and bibliography
Include at least five (5) sociological/criminological sources (journal articles or books) besides the class readings.
Be typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins
Run 10-12 pages long, not includigjvng the cover page or bibliography
