Assignment Guidelines:
You are to write a 5 page screenplay.
I am giving you complete freedom to write a story of your choice. However, the following conditions apply: i. the story should be located in a city you know well and have lived in for at least some part of your life (abu dhabi )ii. it should deal with some aspect of migration (as you determine – no restrictions)
The screenplay is the film’s plot and a lot more, as you will learn by watching this video – – please complete watching it during today’s class time. Make notes as you watch it so that you don’t need to watch it again and again.
Please note that your screenplay should include:
A Cover Page with all the necessary details, including the title of your film
You have 5 pages (excluding the cover page) to develop your script. Please type in 12 point courier font, with 1.15 line spacing. Format the margins as directed in the video.
Make sure you include all the essential details clearly, such as the slug line, dialogues, etc. Feel free to add any additional information you feel may be helpful for your director/actors/cinematographer in executing the production.
The screenplay should be written in English but you are free to use words from other languages (explain the meaning in brackets).
Try to make the story rich in terms of the metadata you provide for your actors, cinematographer, set designer (very important person in film production – responsible for the look and feel of every scene – the person who creates the right atmosphere, finds the props and costumes etc to make the scene look ‘authentic’ or whatever aesthetic the director wants to follow, which could be highly stilised – think Wes Anderson or Tarantino films, as an example), lights person, location team, etc.
Please remember, if you have a scene that requires large crowds (eg. you are shooting in a souk, or filming a battle scene, or filming a scene on a public playground or tourist place. . . ) you need to hire people to act as the crowd (because you can’t just go and start filming somewhere with random people you don’t know). Writing a screenplay involves thinking about and giving proper cues to the rest of the film production team, so that they can do their jobs effectively. So a screenplay is a ,ot more than just a script or the film’s story – it is the common working document that every member of the film production team refers to as the base guideline (including actors who need to memorise their dialogues).
