How do I know that an intervention is effective? How do I know it is a behavior analytic intervention? These are questions you may find yourself asking when you are working in the field. ABA is evidence-based, which means that in your career you will need to research interventions and find supporting evidence for your treatment plans.

Preparation

If you have not already, select the intervention you would like to research. You can select one of the following or email your professor for approval of a topic that is not listed.

Differential reinforcement (DRA, DRI, DRO, DRL, and DRH).

Non-contingent reinforcement (NCR).

Extinction.

Errorless teaching.

Discrete trial teaching.

Functional communication training (FCT).

Natural environment teaching (NET).

Pivotal response training (PRT).

Response interruption and redirection (RIRD).

Behavior contracts.

Describe the intervention you chose.

What are some of the necessary characteristics specific to this intervention?

How do those characteristics make this intervention different from others?

Explain why you selected this intervention.

Do you have a personal interest?

Do you have a professional interest?

Identify which basic concepts of ABA are present in the intervention you have selected. This information needs to be supported with 12 research articles. The research articles will not need to be summarized in full. Instead, you will use the information from the articles to support the basic ABA principles that you have determined are a part of the intervention.
