  • Summative Assessment: Communication Strategy

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW TO THE T. THERE ARE 3 DIFFERENT PARTS TO ASSIGNMENT:

As the recently appointed communications associate for a youth sports organization, you manage the flow of information between athletes, families, and coaches. The sports associations have been impacted by parents trying to influence coaches to obtain lead positions on teams, sparking concern among other parents about the fairness of assignments and how each participant will be able to experience the full range of positions and develop equally. It is your organizations policy to give each participant an opportunity to rotate through all positions and provide the best chance to develop well-rounded skills.

You have been tasked with creating a communication strategy addressing the rotational schedule and policy of the organization to ensure that all participants can play each position and develop their skills. This strategy should cultivate trust, reinforce the program’s culture of commitment to safety and skill development, and build organizational support to maintain and potentially increase program participation.

After a lengthy discussion with coaches and league coordinators, you decide on a three-pronged approach to communicate strategically. Youll draft 1) a detailed email to families, 2) a town hall meeting agenda, and 3) an engaging social media post to promote the organization and its commitment to safety and skill development.

    Assessment Deliverable

Create a 3-piece communication strategy to build support for your youth sports organization. All 3 parts should be written in 1 document.

To complete this assessment, specify a group sport of your choice, such as soccer, basketball, pickleball, softball, baseball, etc. Selecting a sport allows you to address specific issues.

    Part 1: Email

Compose a 175- to 350-word email to families currently enrolled in the program. This message should:

    • Acknowledge the broader concerns within the youth sports industry.
    • Outline 3 safety measures and 3 ethical standards your program has in place for childrens skill development in your specific sport.
    • Reinforce the programs unwavering commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment.
    • Invite open communication, offering channels for feedback and concerns.
    • Announce the town hall meeting and how this can support the community.

Part 2: Agenda of Town Hall Meeting

Write a 1-page agenda outline of items to discuss during the town hall meeting with the local community. The agenda should highlight how your team will communicate with the community to reinforce the program’s commitment to safety, skill development for your specified sport, and build organizational support.

Review the resources listed under Assessment Support for guidance.

    Part 3: Social Media Post

Draft a social media post for a platform of your choice, aimed at the broader community, including prospective program participants. You do not need to publish the post online. This draft post should do the following:

    • Highlight the core values and commitments of your program to safety, integrity, and support.
    • Showcase testimonials or stories from participants and families that reflect the positive impact of your program.
    • Encourage dialogue and invite questions and discussions from the public.
    • Follow best practices for the platform; posts are typically 12 sentences or 15 seconds of audio or video.

Assemble your email, outline, and social media post into a single document. If you choose to draft the social media post in a platform, take a screenshot of your draft and add it as an image at the bottom of your document.

Cite all sources according to APA guidelines.

    Submit your assessment.

    Assessment Support

    • Review the for guidance on how the assessment will be reviewed.
    • Review websites for resources on creating safe and developmentally appropriate youth sports programs. These are not required resources but may be useful to developing your assessment, such as:

They will select an artifical intelligence chatbot (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek) and ask it to generate a three page academic response to their question. Students will then critically evaluate that answer in give to six pages. In doing so, they will be required to support their evaluation by citing at least give academic sources.

  • English Essay

Prompt – Write a review of a specific film, book, TV series, podcast, play, or video game that you think contributes something significant to the genre and to the culture at large. Show how the subjectthe primary sourceof your review illustrates something compelling or exceptional about a particular idea or theme common to the genre. For example, the CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (20152019) is a romantic comedy that eschews and even satirizes traditional romantic comedy tropes such as the grand gesture, doing something out of love for someone. Use specific evidence from your primary source to support a central idea, or thesis. In an essay of about 600 to 750 words, provide an overall judgment about your subject and support it with evidence from the primary source and from secondary sources if applicable. In addition, explore how your specific source has contributed something significant to its genre. In other words, why is this subject interesting, different, or worthy of analysis? Be sure to demonstrate awareness of your sources cultural and historical context as well. For example, if your review is about a romantic comedy, provide relevant information about the history, conventions, or expectations of that genre. Think about and explain the ways your topic adheres to or breaks from audience expectations. What to Include in Your Review Essay The Introductory Paragraph will set up the topic as context for the introduction of your chosen work. It will introduce the film, book, TV series, podcast, play, or video game and the claim or main idea. The introduction will conclude with a thesis that sets up clear expectations for the direction of your essay and give your reader a sense of the points you want to develop and discuss. Your thesis will express your judgment about whether or not the work effectively conveys a timely issue or concern through salient criteria. The following body paragraphs specifically focus on writing a film or book review, but they may be used to structure your review of a video game, podcast, play or TV series. Plot Summary – While you want to provide some plot summary, keep this brief and avoid specific details that would spoil the viewing for others. Description – While the plot summary will give the reader a general sense of what the film is about, also include a more detailed description of your particular cinematic experience watching the film. This may include your personal impression of what the film looks, feels, and sounds like. In other words, what stands out in your mind when you think about this particular film? Analysis – In order to explain your impression of the film (or another work), consider how well the film utilizes formal techniques and thematic content. How do the films formal techniques (such as cinematography, editing, mise-en-scne, lighting, diegetic and non-diegetic sound, genre, or narrative) affect the way the film looks, feels, and sounds to you? How does the thematic content (such as history, race, gender, sexuality, class, or the environment) affect your experience and interpretation? Also, do the formal techniques work to forward the thematic content? The Conclusion should leave the reader with a clear understanding of your stance towards your selected film, book, TV series, podcast, play, or video game. Consider also pointing your reader toward ideas beyond your own response on the work for example, to its application, implication, or importance, or how this work represents (or fails to represent) the qualities of works in this category. Submission Requirements This essay should follow MLA style. Your essay should be typed, numbered, double spaced, have one-inch margins, a title, and all relevant personal information on the top of the page. The minimum word count of 600 to 750 words does not include the heading, the title, and the works cited entries. You may exceed the word count but not by much! Please provide a word count at the end of your essay. As part of your essay, you will use at least one (1) still shot or excerpt from the work. The image should be accompanied by a brief description or annotation to explain it. —————————– The Works Cited Section will give the citation information for your book, play, podcast, video game, movie or TV series. Also, you will include 1 to 2 published reviews in order to situate your evaluation in the larger conversation about said work.

  • Listicle Assignment: Five Things to Know about the Establish…

Five Things to Know about the Establishment of the U.S. Military’s Role in the International Community

From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, the role of the American military, as well as its acceptance by the American people, changed immeasurably. The Civil War proved the American (Union) military a significant force that, even with its failures in some areas of the war, could triumph through strategic adaptation.

As the 19th century wore on, and America became a larger economic and political power in the international system, the American militarys responsibilities would morph into duties that had not only the national security of the United States in mind, but also that of international security.

With the Spanish-American War, the American military became a part of the international power struggles that would continue throughout the next century. The military, in the First and Second World Wars would finally see full acceptance from the American people as a vast institution that needed a standing group of forces, and, in the end, would become the most significant military power of the free world.

In this assignment, you will create a listicle discussing the most important elements of the establishment of the United States military’s role in the international community. According to Wikipedia, a listicle is an article that is structured as a list, which is often fleshed out with additional text relating to each item. A typical listicle will have a title describing a specific number of items contained within, along with subsequent subheadings within the text for each entry. Basically, it is the combination of a list and an article.

You should pick the most critical aspects of these topics in your opinion, and you should write at least one paragraph containing at least five complex sentences about each of these choices.

Be specific and concise. You shouldnt give background information. You should use key terms and specific information that demonstrate how the issue or event is critical to understanding the U.S. military’s developing role in the international community.

*Note that the materials from Modules Four and Five are relevant to this assignment.

You can create this listicle as a Word document or a Sway Presentation. All major assertions and information taken from the course materials should be cited, and you should write in a formal manner.

    NO OUTSIDE SOURCES ARE PERMITTED

Tips for creating this assignment will be posted in Announcements.

  • Project 2: Desktop Migration Proposal

This week, you will submit the second project, the Desktop Migration Proposal. Using the requirements analysis your manager provided and the Internet research you conducted, submit your recommendation to the assignment folder. As you are writing your recommendation, ensure your analysis and recommendations align with your managers priorities and concerns.

You should carefully document any assumptions made (e.g., how you analyzed the requirement for upgrading monitors, peripherals devices, etc.).

Refer to the https://learn.umgc.edu/d2l/common/dialogs/quickLink/quickLink.d2l?ou=1374678&type=lti&rcode=UMUC-5977531&srcou=561320 for the companys needs (requirements). Your justification should clearly indicate how you bridge the gap between the existing desktop specifications and the new machines you recommend.

How Will My Work Be Evaluated?

For this assignment, you are asked by your manager to research the replacement of 50 aging desktop machines with new laptops. Review the business needs from your manager carefully so that you fully appreciate the requirements you must address in selecting the new laptops.

For example, what is significant about the need for “multiple external monitors”? Ask yourself what it takes to connect a laptop to external monitors. What ports are included on your recommended laptop? What kind of cables are required? Can those ports/cables be used with the external monitors? Does the laptop have sufficient graphics capabilities to drive external displays and if so, how many and at what resolution? Follow this same process for all the business needs.

By documenting your choices and the overall recommendation in an effective background report, you are showing how you use your technical knowledge to convey your ideas to others in a professional setting. Your ability to express your findings using the right mix of technical detail in a business context is an important workplace skill.

The following evaluation criteria aligned to the competencies will be used to grade your assignment:

    • 1.1.3: Present ideas in a clear, logical order appropriate to the task.
    • 1.2.3: Explain specialized terms or concepts to facilitate audience comprehension.
    • 1.4.3: Write concise and logical sentences in standard academic English that clarify relationships among concepts and ideas.
    • 2.1.2: Describe the context surrounding the issue or problem.
    • 2.3.3: Explain inferences and deductions that follow logically from the evidence provided.
    • 10.1.3: Define the specifications of required technologies.
    • 13.1.1: Create documentation appropriate to the stakeholder.
    • 13.2.1: Evaluate vendor recommendations in the context of organization requirements.

This project is a three- to four-page business-oriented proposal should contain the following:

    • at least one high-quality graphic
    • one or more tables to present information
    • at least one online configurator
    • your purchase recommendations, specifications, and justification for your choice
    • one to two IEEE references
