  • Sleep and Dream Log

    Instructions

STEP 1: For this assignment, youll be keeping track of your sleep habits and your dreams in order to analyze your sleep habits and examine dream theories. To begin, make a copy of .

STEP 2: Keep track of your sleep habits and dreams for a MINIMUM of 3 days.

STEP 3: While its not guaranteed you will remember your dreams, you can take some steps to help. Begin by telling yourself you want to remember your dream, then print off the sleep/dream journal and have your phone or a paper and a pen next to your bed right when you wake up. Try to review the dream in your head as soon as you wake up, and consider specifics such as the people involved, the location and setting, the storyline, or how you felt.

STEP 4: Submit your sleep journal and sleep essay based on the following prompt:

Based on your sleep/dream journal and what you have learned about the purpose for dreaming, write a 1-2 page response (between 250-500 words) about your own sleep habits.

    Your essay should include:

    1. An analysis of your sleep habits. Do you go to bed at the same time every night? How many hours a night do you normally sleep? Do you notice any patterns?
    2. Do your sleep habits need to change? What could you do to be a better sleeper? What concepts from this class apply to your sleep habits?
    3. An analysis of your dreams. Why do you usually dream? Are there any patterns or recurring themes? Is there any consistency between the things you do during the day and the dreams you have? *If you cannot remember any of your dreams, you can skip this part and spend more time focusing on the steps above and below.
    4. Your conclusion as to what is the MAIN purpose that we dream and why. Consider the theories presented in your readings.

  • Unit 9 Disc – Admin Law

Eminent Domain: Kelo v. New London As discussed in Chapter 11, the Fifth Amendment requires just compensation by the government whenever property is taken for public use. The authority of the government to take property for public use is known as eminent domain. One of the more infamous eminent domain cases took place in Connecticut, where the city of New London sought to use eminent domain to take private property to develop 90 acres that would be used in support of a proposed Pfizer research facility. While the city of New London claimed that taking private property satisfied the Fifth Amendments public use requirement, the petitioners argued that taking property for private economic purposes did not qualify as public use. The Supreme Court heard the case in 2005 and held that taking private property from one private owner to another for economic development satisfies the Fifth Amendments public use requirement. Sadly, 5 years after the Courts ruling, Pfizer backed out of its plans to build a research facility, and the property remains vacant and unused. For this weeks discussion, answer the following questions: Do you agree with the Supreme Courts Kelo v. New London decision? Why or why not? In your opinion, does the taking of private property for the purpose of economic development satisfy the public use requirement of the Fifth Amendment? Why? Research an instance in which eminent domain was used to take private property. Discuss the facts of the case and whether you believe it satisfies the public use requirement of the Fifth Amendment.

  • Factoring

This activity is on factoring, and its use in solving polynomial equations has two main parts. In the first one, you will solve a randomly generated polynomial equation and share your solution process with your classmates.

In the second part, you will do some research and report on an application of polynomials used in science, engineering, business or any field. Polynomials are very important in modeling real-world applications. Your initial post will have your reply to both parts A and B, together.

    Let’s get started

    Part A

Go to and you will be directed to a randomly generated polynomial equation to solve.

Everyone will automatically get a different equation to solve. For this part of the activity complete the following:

    • Take a screenshot of your polynomials. Ideally, you would crop the image like the one above. Here is how you crop an image in
    • and here is how you crop an image on a
    • Solve your equation with pen and paper. Use correct notation and syntax, as you see it in your textbook. Include a brief commentary on each line of your work explaining what you did. For example, On this step, I added 7 to both sides of the equation. You will not receive any credit if you only give the solution; you must explain each step in your own words.
    • Take a picture of your work.
    • Post both your screenshot and picture into your first, initial post by embedding (not attaching) the images.

    Part B

In this part of the activity, you will find an example of an application of a polynomial function. It can be any application. In your post for this part of the activity (remember, include your responses to both parts A and B together in your first, initial post for the week), you will complete the followng:

    • Give the polynomial function you found. Use proper notation and syntax by using the equation editor here in Canvas. It is in the Insert menu (see the image above on embedding an image).
    • Briefly explain what the application is. What is being calculated or modeled?
    • Do you know what the constants/coefficients in the function mean?
    • Cite the source where you found the polynomial function.

Note: This activity is setup up so that you must submit your main, initial post before you can see the posts of your classmates.

For your main, initial post, thoroughly follow the directions given above.
