MRW CASE RECOMMONDATION

As you know, you will be making a recommondation about what MRW should do. Make that decision now. Yes, right now, decide. Don’t write it down. Just keep in mind and read on…

Your role: You are the Sr. Director of Business Strategy at MRW, and you raport directly to CEO, Paco Villaneuva.

Background: The HR and IT teame have come to an agreement of what to do about Sonia. They want to do the opposite of what think should be done. They know you disagree, and they respect your job and opinions, but they belleve they are right. Before moving forward, they want to meet with Paco to get his approval on their decision.

Despite them disagreeing with you, they do want you to join the meeting since this decision could

have signiticant implications relative to MRW’s strategies moving into the future.

You fear that Paco, who tends to rely on his departmental teams for near-term decisions, will agree and approve their decision. You fear that Paco, like the HR and IT teams, see this decision as an operations decision rather than as a strategic one.

You see it as your job as the Director of Business Strategy to persuade Paco to go against what the HR and IT teams want to do. You also know that the HR and IT teams, while very capable and accomplished people, are ultimately NOT business strategists, seeing ‘whole picture’. You see this meeting as your last chance to not only talk Paco out of making what you think is the wrong decision, but to also persuade the HR and IT teams to respect your position even if they don’t necessarily change their minds. But again, it is ultimately Paco’s decision.

To convince Paco, and perhaps the HR and IT teams, to do what you believe is best for MRW, you’ll create a structured Case Analysis Method paper to deliver to them for review during your meeting. You know that your JOB is to provide objective analysis and advice that considers competing and sometime drastically different alternatives that are explored with equal depth and honesty. You also know that, in situations like this, emotions and personal feelings are also major factors that deserve consideration as they do drive decision making in times of uncertainty. Finally, you have been hoping to be promoted to Vice President of Corp Strategy, and your success here will seal the deal!

Your Case Method Analys should include:

A Problem Statement that concisely frames the problem confronting MRW. Keep it short and focused but provide enough context to prepare your audience for what comes next. And that is the Analysis. The Analysis proves the problem statement, exploring key issues, possible future outcomes, their impact, and their likelihood. Focus on insights and inferences about key issues that go beyond simple case facts. Detail at least two Alternatives for the entire team to consider. Then provide your Recommendation on which alternative should be chosen and why.

In addition (yes, there is one more thing to include), as the Director of Business Strategy, your job is to create a Contingency Plan outlining actions to take that will help mitigate the negative outcomes that could arise if your recommendation does not work for whatever reason.

Write a ‘fresh’ paper and WRITE TO THE PROMPT. Be ‘in character’, writing according to your role. Use first-person pronouns (I, we, you, us, etc.) in natural but professional ways. Rule of thumb: Write professionally but write as you would to respected coworkers.

Your paper should be single line spaced and use 11-or 12-point font and have 1 or.75″ margins. Your paper should be no more than ONE (1) page. The CLASS rubric will be used to score your paper.

Note: tracking changes MUST be ON / Full Markup and your document must be saved and submitted this way. If tracking changes are not “ON / Full Markup”, you will not receive any points for your revision. Not sure how to to use MSWord Tracking Changes? Simply go to YouTube and put “MSWord Tracking Changes” in the search bar, hit return, and take your pick of tutorials.

Also note: for the revise paper

  • You must submit in MSWord (NOT PDF)
  • You MUST use Tracking Changes ON. If you don’t use Tracking Changes, no revision points will be given.
  • Points of this revision say “0.1” so the points you earn ADD to your exam score and simply do not washout in the math.
  • You MUST use Tracking Changes ON. If you don’t use Tracking Changes, no revision points will be given.
  • Do NOT limit your revisions just to things I’ve specifically marked. Reconsider everything based on the comments I put on your paper BUT also take into consideration what you’ve learned up until the last days of class.
  • You MUST use Tracking Changes ON. If you don’t use Tracking Changes, no revision points will be given.
  • Be SURE to submit before the due date day/time.
  • You MUST use Tracking Changes ON. If you don’t use Tracking Changes, no revision points will be given.
  • Yes, the “MUST use Tracking Changes” thing is list several times on purpose… because it is true. At least three people per semester do NOT use tracking changes…go figure.
Please find attached the rubric and the case are there.
