For the final two tasks of the course, you will:
- Annotate and discuss one paragraph of either your Unit 3 or Unit 4 Essay, while taking into consideration feedback and suggestions from your instructor, and if used, tutors. Please be mindful to engage with and address all suggestions. Revision enables you to revisit your original work with outside perspectives in an effort to make the final product as effective as possible. Revision also promotes growth and improvement in troublesome areas as you engage and grapple with material or skills to modify your work and demonstrate understanding.
- Compose a Metacognitive Reflection to accompany your revision. The purpose of a Metacognitive Reflection is to take time to evaluate and consider your personal growth in the course as a whole by engaging in critical reflection questions that address both content and soft-skills related to your performance and development throughout the course. This type of reflection allows you to discern areas in which you have grown and areas in which you are still developing to help you prepare for future courses or careers.
Skills
In this assignment, you will utilize feedback and suggestions from your instructor, and if used, tutors, as well as your own skills, to annotate and discuss one paragraph of either the Unit 3 or Unit 4 Essay. This consideration should go beyond mere proofreading to consider structural improvements, such as strengthening topic sentences, transitions, and analysis, and should also address composition error(s) within the essay. You will then reflect honestly on your individual performance in the course while assessing both your academic efforts and those associated with soft skills (i.e., time management, engagement with materials, etc.). You will practice:
- Literary analysis and composition
- Critical thinking and reflection
- Self-evaluation pertaining to content skill performance and development
- Self-evaluation pertaining to soft-skills performance and development
- Reflective writing
- Composition of self-evaluation

Revision Tasks
Part 1
Review feedback carefully: Consider any feedback on your Unit 3 Essay or Unit 4 Essay from your instructor and any tutors you may have worked with. Take note of specific areas mentioned, including grammar, content, sources, and your thesis.
Part 2
Select one paragraph of your Unit 3 or Unit 4 essay. Paste this into your document and highlight and make bold areas that are in need of revision for issues other than surface level correction (formatting, grammar, spelling). Discuss specifically how you would revise or improvise these areas, being careful to explain why the area needs revision and how you would revise for improvement. If neither of your essays included areas that were in need of correction, identify areas that could have been developed to an even greater degree and explain how those additions would have increased the scope or depth of your argument. Your response, not including the section of essay, should be no less than 100 words (10-11 sentences).
Part 3
Explain how revising the highlighted areas would improve the effectiveness of your overall argument in the essay. Your response should be no less than 50 words (5-6 sentences).
Metacognitive Reflection Tasks
Part 1
After completing the revision of your Unit 3 or Unit 4 Essay, begin the Metacognitive Reflection portion of the assignment. Your reflection should be in the same document as your revision. Use the following prompts and questions to guide your reflection:
- Discuss what you believed were your strengths in writing the essay in at least 40 words (4-5 sentences); be as specific as possible.
- Describe what you are most proud of with your composition of this specific essay in at least 40 words (4-5 sentences).
- Discuss how considering the revision process was beneficial to your understanding of revision and how revision improves composition in at least 40 words (4-5 sentences).
Part 2
Reflecting back to your Practice Discussion Board at the beginning of the course (located in our START HERE module), consider the goals you wanted to achieve and your expectations for the course and answer the following questions:
- Did you meet or achieve your goals during the course? How do you think achieving or meeting these goals helps prepare you for your career? In no less than 70 words (7-8 sentences) identify the specific goal(s) and experiences in the course you feel will be most beneficial.
- Has your understanding or hypothesis about how the course could prepare you for future endeavors, both academic and otherwise, changed? Were there areas that you now feel will prepare you for your endeavors that you did not anticipate at the beginning of the course? In at least 60 words (6-7 sentences) describe how your expectations were either met or exceeded by your work in the course.
Part 3
Consider your experiences and feedback throughout the entire course and respond to the following prompts:
- Identify ways you feel you progressed as a writer and critical thinker during the course in at least 60 words (6-7 sentences).
- Identify the assignment you are most proud of and discuss why in at least 50 words (5-6 sentences). This assignment does not have to be the one in which you earned the highest grade!
- Identify your two largest “takeaways” from the course and discuss their importance to you individually; these do not have to be solely academic in nature. For example, a takeaway can be that you learned how to better manage your time from your experiences within the course. Your response should be at least 80 words (8-9 sentences).
Once you have finalized your revision and Metacognitive Reflection, submit your final revision and reflection in the Unit 4 Revision and Metacognitive Reflection folder.

Being able to read closely, think things through, and write clearly can help me in college and later on in career. When I actually take time to read instead of skimming, I understand the material better and learned more from it. Thinking critically helps me question what I’m reading and form my opinions instead of just accepting everything as true. Writing clearly matters because it helps me get my point across in class discussion, assignment, and eventually at work. Understanding the people around me also helps in college, especially during group work, because it makes communication easier and cuts down and avoids confusion. These skills matter I the workplace too since employees care about communication and teamwork. My intended major is Cybersecurity, and I’m interested in a career in cybersecurity. I think this class will help me improve my communications kills and be better prepared for both school and my future job.
