Students will write a 5-7 page treatment plan of a client from a movie, book, or documentary film in APA format. Students must address the following prompts in their papers:
- Identify and prioritize problems to address with the client in treatment.
- Identify potential players on the treatment team and assign roles.
- Use the trauma assessment tool to identify the appropriate phase of intervention to begin treatment.
- Identify potential solutions to the problem and articulate descriptions for solution planning.
- Identify and address potential strengths and barriers to solutions.
- Identify potential traumatic reminders/stressors
All parts of this assignment need to be based on the TST treatment method, therefore I have provided you with the exact locations in Saxe, G., Ellis, B.H. & Brown, A. (2015). Trauma systems therapy for children and teens. to assist you in completing each section and they are attached below. Students must address the following prompts in their papers:
- Identify and prioritize problems to address with the client in treatment. This section needs to be developed according to the TST Priority Problem Worksheet tool. See p.194 and 195.
- Identify potential players on the treatment team and assign roles.
- Use the trauma assessment tool to identify the appropriate phase of intervention to begin treatment. This section needs to be based on the TST Treatment Planning Grid tool. See p. 204 and 205.
- Identify potential solutions to the problem and articulate descriptions for solution planning. Based on the phase of intervention for your client, your potential solutions will be based on either Safety Focused Treatment, Regulation Focused Treatment, or Beyond Trauma Treatment. See Chapters 12, 13, 14, respectively.
- Identify and address potential strengths and barriers to solutions. See p.208 for identifying strengths and p. 209 for identifying potential challenges according to TST.
- Identify potential traumatic reminders/stressors. Based on the Moment by Moment Assessment, p. 153.

As you begin preparing for your Trauma Treatment Plan, one of the most important skills you will need is the ability to match interventions to the correct phase of treatment within the Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) model.
To support you with this, I have provided a TST Intervention Bank. This is a resource you should be using as you begin thinking through your final assignment.
However, simply having a list of interventions is not enough. As clinicians, your role is to make intentional, phase-based decisions about what should happen in treatment and why.
In this section of the treatment plan you are expected to do the following:
- In your own words, briefly describe the goal of this phase of treatment.
- Select 23 interventions from the Intervention Bank that align with this phase.
- For each intervention:
- Explain why it fits this phase
- Describe what problem it is addressing
- Identify who would carry out the intervention (e.g., therapist, caregiver, school, etc.)
- Give a brief example (real or hypothetical) of what this intervention might look like in practice.
This section ties it all together and demonstrates your clinical understanding of the client and should provide clarity on the purpose of the interventions and how you determined the choices you made.
Rubric:
The Student will identify and prioritize the most important problems to address in treatment with the traumatized youth. Students should prioritize at least 4 problems to address and provide a rationale for why they have chosen these problems.
The student will identify key individuals who will take part in the treatment plan. Students will assign roles to each “player” on the team and provide a rationale explaining why they have chosen the individual to take part in the treatment team and why they have been assigned specific roles.
Students will use the trauma assessment tool to identify where they will begin their intervention will clients. Students will provide a rationale for the factors that they considered in making the determination.
Students will identify the solutions to the problems addressed in the treatment plan. Students will provide a thorough description of the solution and make strong links explaining how each solution addresses the problem identified.
Students will identify the key interpersonal and environmental strengths and barriers that will be incorporated into the treatment plan. Students must provide a strong rationale for why they view these as strengths or barriers.
Students will create a list of potential traumatic reminders/stressors and provide a strong rationale for why they have identified each potential reminder/stressor.
