Scenario
The regulator has asked you to participate in the annual mental health education program for all individuals who work in mental health within your state. Your role is to prepare an educational pamphlet for conference participants to use in their workplace.
Instructions
Design an educational pamphlet containing these four key areas and including examples:
- State mental health laws, confidentiality, and HIPAA
- Compare state mental health laws between your state and a neighboring state noting similarities and differences –CITE SPECIFIC STATE REGULATIONS
- Regulations for restraints and seclusion along with involuntary treatment for patients over the age of 18, including evidence – CITE SPECIFIC STATE REGULATIONS
- Explanation of medical ethical consultation, medical liability, and duty to warn
- Includes supporting rationale and evidence
- Compare patient versus provider (legal and civil interviews) – Difference between the interview of a patient for civil purposes versus an interview for legal/forensic purposes.
